The IZT – Institute for Futures Studies and Technology Assessment was founded 1981 in Berlin. It is one of the leading institutions for scientific futures research in Europe and develops future-oriented studies with long-term societal relevance. IZT supports decision-makers in politics, business and society. The interdisciplinary teams analyse and assess trends, new technologies and their environment. With those activities IZT furthers the development of innovative sustainable products, processes and services in the economy and in politics.
At IZT there are three research clusters:
- Futures Studies and Participation (including Applied Futures Studies, Development of methods and theory, Social innovations)
- Sustainability and Transformation (Governance and learning; Energy, resources and emissions; Infrastructure, cities and mobility)
- Technology and Innovation (Future Markets; Technology Design; Product and Service Development)
IZT is founding member of the supranational NETWORK FUTURE RESEARCH, and several of its experts teach at various universities, among them the Free University of Berlin (Masters-program in Future Studies)
